BCC: ‘Two-tier’ growth continues, with alarm bell for trade aspirations

The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) Quarterly Economic Survey (QES) - Britain's largest and most authoritative private sector business survey, based on almost 7,500 responses from firms, employing around 800,000 people – shows that Britain’s two-tier growth trend continues. While both manufacturing and service balances were generally weaker this quarter, manufacturing balances declined to a much larger extent than in services. Read more...

Chamber Member Teens Unite Put their Heads Together to Fundraise

With just two weeks to go until Teens Unite’s overseas cycling challenge in Cuba, the charity held a quiz night at Wormley Football Club to raise as much sponsorship for the trip as possible.
With eight teams taking part, the quiz night was an opportunity for local supporters, families and businesses to come together for a worthy cause.
On 15th October, a group of 15 cyclists will be travelling a distance of 350km at handlebar level across the Caribbean island in just five days. The group will be led by Teens Unite’s CEO and Founder, Debbie Pezzani who has been training hard for the event.

BCC: UK external position remains precarious, despite positive quarterly figures

Commenting on the GDP and current account figures published today by the ONS, David Kern, Chief Economist at the British Chambers of Commerce said:

“Today’s figures are pleasing as they confirm that the UK economy grew at a satisfactory pace in the second quarter of the year. It is also pleasing that business investment is confirmed to have grown on both a quarterly and an annual basis.
