Hertfordshire Building Control (HBC) are delighted to announce that Graduate Building Control Surveyor Bhavesh Patel is the winner of the National Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Trainee of the Year Award 2018. Bhavesh was presented with his award at the prestigious President’s Reception at Trinity House, London on 2nd October.

Bhavesh says “When I found out that I had won the Trainee of the Year award I was over the moon and very proud! I couldn’t believe how far I had come. With the support that I have been given and the receiving of this award, I’m determined to push harder to be the best I can be in my career.”

On joining HBC in January 2017, Bhavesh had very little knowledge of the technicalities of building control.  What he did have in spades was a burning desire to learn and a passion for leading the building compliance process. He has demonstrated his desire to learn by pairing up with more experienced surveyors, attending Continual Professional Development events and putting the hard yards in to study the Regulations and potential solutions to technical issues. This hard work has paid off, such that very quickly, he was able to be trusted to deal with customers with little supervision.

Bhavesh’s commitment to LABC is demonstrated by his achievements, and it is in his development of relationships with clients on behalf of LABC that Bhavesh has excelled.Simon Heywood, Managing Director of Hertfordshire Building Control says “It is really pleasing that in someone who is near the beginning of his career he understands the bigger picture and recognises that we are at our strongest when we work together with our LABC colleagues.Bhavesh is a surveying graduate and a graduate member of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE). He is on track to complete the relevant requirements for acceptance as a full member of CABE by early 2019.  Bhavesh is exactly the individual who we should retain within the LABC ranks. He is hard working, energetic, enthusiastic and an inspiration to others in what can be achieved in a short space of time.  He is also self-effacing and modest, unafraid to ask for advice and I feel that it is this attribute above all that will ensure his success in his chosen profession”.
