At the Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce’s Circular Economy Conference on 16 June 2016 at BRE, in Watford, Dr Mariale Moreno of Cranfield University said that 90 per cent of raw material used in manufacturing becomes waste before the product leaves the factory, and 80 per cent of products are thrown away within the first six months of their life.
She was speaking on the circular economy and opportunities for business participation. She was joined by guest speaker, Benita Matofska, a world expert on the sharing economy.
Their presentations to 70 business men and women were followed by two panel discussions by business leaders and innovators, expertly facilitated by Richard Potter, Director of Innovation at Sopra Steria.
Thanks were given to BRE for hosting the conference, and sponsors JPA Furniture and Cranfield University who are both actively supporting the circular economy, and the other exhibitors who supported the event including Epson, Demand-ing Group, Westfield Health and Tamar Energy.
