Small Acts of Kindness is an award winning, including the Commnity Champion Award of the Inspiring Hertfordshire Awards 2019; high impact, charitable organisation working in partnership with over 90 other organisations from the voluntary, corporate and statutory sectors and over 200 community volunteers.
We source and distribute practical gifts that reduce the negative impact that feeling lonely and isolated can have on people’s physical and mental wellbeing. We seek opportunities to connect communities with kindness.
Small Acts of Kindness are working in partnership with the Mental Health Liaison Team based at Watford Hospital to source and distribute Wellbeing Bags to adult patients admitted during the Covid-19 pandemic by the Mental Health Team at a point of crisis and then discharged home. Although based at Watford the team operate across several sites across Herts including Hemel. The bags will comprise of 3 components; Food, Self-Care and Wellbeing.
The team are seeing about 200 patients a month currently (down from about 300 in more normal times). Many but not all of them are older people. Some also have diabetes.
We have obtained funding for an initial 200 bags, if we have to pay for all the contents. So obviously, the more that can be donated, the more bags we can distribute and the more people we can help.
