Down at Lee Valley Park Farms

Celebrate the summer months at Lee Valley Park Farms with a host of themed activities, from close encounter experiences with furry animals and meeting Meerkats, to lamb racing. There are different themed events throughout the holiday period, focusing on birds, horses and the smaller inhabitants of the 300 animal farm.

From now until 3 September, children can get involved in a whole heap of animal activities and learn lots of fun facts about different groups of animals with new themes every two weeks - with a chance to get up close to some of them. There are also plenty of adventure activities, with play areas, toboggan rides and a chance to conquer the slopes of the Alpine Adventure or become an archaeologist, discovering the ancient bones buried in the farm’s new Dino Dig and Splash area.

There is also an opportunity to meet and name the farm’s new Tarantula and to say hello to the new Shire horse, Guinness.

Giant inflatable Beach & Play Park

A brand new Beach & Play Park at Lee Valley White Water Centre has just opened for the summer. The new paid for attraction in Waltham Cross features an array of fun inflatable activities as well as a vast in-land beach.

The inflatable zone includes a giant assault course, a colossal bouncy castle with room for up to 80 people and a Disco Dome to dance the day away. For thrill seekers, there’s also ‘The Descent’ - a towering vertigo inducing 13 metre high slide, to get pulses racing.

As well as the inflatable fun, visitors can relax in deck chairs on the huge in-land beach where there are a variety of beach games and activities. For families with children of all ages, there is also a Tot’s Playzone and Dora the Explorer Playzone™ where using ‘touch’ and other senses, children can explore these interactive inflatables by stepping on squeaky stones, picking fruit from trees, slotting in shapes and more.

Holiday fun at Lee Valley White Water Centre

As well as the giant inflatables, a host of other special summer fun activities await at Lee Valley White Water Centre, with lots of activities available on the water, including Go Canoeing and stand up paddle boarding (SUP), and an inflatable obstacle course - Water Wipeout. In addition, those over 12 can try their hand at tubing - an exhilarating ride down the rapids in a ring-shaped dinghy and Hydrospeeding - which is similar to bodyboarding but on fast flowing white water, as well as sampling  the thrill of Family  Rafting down the white water rapids of the Legacy Loop! For those who prefer to stay on dry land, there are walks or games such as disc golf available in nearby River Lee Country Park or a chance to make castles in the sand at the venue’s golden beach. And after all the fun, they can enjoy refreshments in The Terrace Bar & Café or The Finishing Line Café.

Improve your child’s cycling skills with youth and school holiday sessions at Lee Valley VeloPark. There are a whole range of sessions for all age groups, offering an introduction to cycling.From youth sessions perfect for beginners, through to more experienced riders who want to develop their skills with the venue’s experienced coaches - there’s something for everyone.
 
PedalUp Pump is one of the many holiday and introductory sessions available for children and there are sessions in the holidays throughout August and September.

These one hour sessions take place on the indoor pump track located in the velodrome.During the session,young riders will learn to stand confidently on the pedals and understand how to negotiate the pump track safely, along with key bike handling techniques – fully preparing them for BMX track and mountain bike trails.

Walking in the Footsteps of Mr Bowles

Join an informative tour highlighting the history of the remarkable plantsman Edward Augustus Bowles (E A Bowles), creator of Myddelton House Gardens. A Walk in the Park – Family walk at Old Mill and Meadows

This 50th Anniversary walk is around the beautiful area of Old Mill and Meadows. Listed in the Domesday Book of 1086, Broxbourne Old Mill is a very historic site. Over the centuries the mill changed hands and roles many times, and a catastrophic fire in 1949 means that today there’s little more than the 16th century floor still in existence.

Wild Wednesdays - ‘Whodunnit?’ Family Orienteering competition

Another 'Wild Wednesday' of family events taking place every Wednesday during the school holidays, as Lee Valley Park marks its 50th Anniversary.

All the family can take part in an orienteering competition with a difference. There’s a chance to become a wildlife detective team, navigating the orienteering course and uncovering a mystery. Teams can gain points for every correct clue, naming 'whodunnit' and have the opportunity for bonus points to become the reigning Champion and chief detectives.

All participants receive a certificate and the winning team will receive certificates and prizes. Activities will take place both outside and inside, so please dress appropriately for the weather and ground conditions on the day. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

A Walk in the Park – Season of Marshland  Medicine

This seasonal herb walk takes place monthly, giving walkers a chance to stroll around Walthamstow Marshes with a local herbalist who knows the area from the medicinal plant perspective. These walks enable people to enjoy the wild green spaces and observe how the leaves, buds, flowers and berries rotate through the year, offering a variety of food and medicine.

Visitors will be guided through plant recognition, folklore & history, traditional & current medicinal uses and responsible ways of harvesting and preparing plant medicines.

Lee Valley Riding Centre is opening its doors in celebration of Lee Valley Regional Park Authority's 50th Anniversary with an opportunity to meet the ponies! Visitors can take a tour of the yard, meet the ponies and learn about what they eat, what they like and what it takes to look after them.  There will also be a chance to get close to the animals and even groom them.
