The Council is currently consulting on proposed changes to polling district boundaries and polling locations. Polling districts are sub-divisions of Borough wards and the locations are where the polling stations are located, such as schools and community halls.
The Council is statutorily obliged to undertake a review of polling districts and places within the Borough by January 2020. Of particular importance to the review is ensuring that all polling places are easily located and easily accessible for all members of the community. Having reviewed the existing polling provision, the current setup of districts, places and stations appears to be largely appropriate and reflective of the needs within the community, however several changes have been proposed.
The current proposals affect areas of 8 wards, including Hoddesdon North, Hoddesdon town and Rye Park, Wormley and Turnford, Cheshunt North, Cheshunt South and Theobalds, Flamstead End, Goffs Oak and Rosedale, and Bury Green. It has been proposed to relocate two polling stations in Cheshunt, whilst adding one in Goffs Oak. Polling district boundary changes are proposed in each of the 8 wards listed.
Full details including maps are available under ‘Consultations’ accessed from the ‘Your Council and election’ section of the Council’s website, www.broxbourne.gov.uk, and for inspection at the Borough offices.
The Council would welcome any comments and representations regarding the proposals. Comments or representations regarding accessibility from persons and bodies representing people with a disability would be of particular value. The Council would also welcome proposals for alternative places to utilise as polling stations. Broxbourne Council has written directly to local political parties, residents’ associations, and bodies that are experiences in access issues for the disabled.
The consultation period ends on Friday 15 November 2019. Any comments from members of the public regarding the proposals, particularly with regard to the convenience and suitability for electors, and access for people with a disability would be appreciated.
All relevant comments and representations will be taken into account and help finalise the proposals. Finalised proposals will be presented to the Council for approval at the end of the consultation period, and will be effective from December 2020. Please submit any representations or comments to the Council using the following methods:
