Due to the recent retirement of the North Mymms Poppy Appeal Organiser the charity is seeking a volunteer to take on this year’s Appeal in the town.

Barbara Brewster, of Hatfield, has run the Poppy Appeal for North Mymms for the last eight years. She has grown the appeal each year and made it a huge success. Barbara has ensured that all schools, shops and businesses are sent poppy boxes in time for November and members of the public can buy their poppies from collectors during Poppy fortnight. Due to ill health in the family Barbara, with much sadness, is unable to continue was the Poppy Appeal Organiser.

Natasha Robertson Community Fundraiser for the Poppy Appeal said ‘I would like to say a huge thank you to Barbara for all oher hard work and commitment to the Poppy Appeal over the years. Unfortunately unless someone comes forward to organise the Poppy Appeal there might not be any poppies available in the area this year. Every year the general public wants to remember those who gave their lives for their country and help provide services for those who have served in the armed forces. It is therefore crucial to have someone in place to ensure that the public can get their poppies in time for Remembrance Sunday, as well as ensuring that we continue to raise the funds needed to support our armed forces family. ‘

The Poppy Appeal this November is all about helping the Afghan generation of the Armed forces and their families. The Legion has committed £25 million over the next ten years to support the operation of four Personnel Recovery Centres which will provide residential accommodation for Service Personnel and individually tailored rehabilitation programmes. Locally The Royal British Legion provides guidance and support to those serving, ex serving and their families.  Every day the Royal British Legion needs to raise £200.,000 to provide its vital welfare work.

The Poppy Apeal Organiser role involves co-coordinating the distribution of poppies to local shops and businesses and counting and banking monies.  The volunteer who takes on the role will also co-ordinate a team of volunteers and receive support from the Royal British Legion. If you think you might be able to help or would like to discuss the role in more detail, please contact Natasha on 01279 758220 or email nrobertson@britisglegion.org.uk
