The 11th edition of the European Week of Regions and Cities (Open Days) showcased once again the East of England’s expertise and engagement in EU policy and programmes. In particular, Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership led two debates on Tuesday 8th October focusing on youth employment and industrial transformation entitled ‘Mailing the Connections’, attracting a large audience from 23 countries and a range of backgrounds and interests. The LEP was able to demonstrate its commitment to addressing the challenges of growth and jobs and, together with conference delegates, to explore how best to utilise the next generation of European programmes starting in 2014.

The event, led by the East of England European Partnership, along with Brussels Offices from Norway, Denmark, Poland, Portugal, Croatia, Turkey, and Spain was chaired by John Gourd, chair of Hertfordshire LEP. John steered the discussions and drew linkages between best practice from each presentation into two interesting debates.

Hertfordshire LEP also built useful relationships during this event and at its fringes, meeting to discuss potential trade linkages with Utrecht, Hamburg, Central Portugal, Castilla y Leon and two regions of Norway.
