Responding to today’s announcement that the third quarter GDP was negative Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce & Industry Chief Executive, Tim Hutchings, said,

“Though obviously disappointing, slightly higher than expected, these figures have hardly come out of the blue. Whilst the economy is clearly challenging, and likely to be so for some time, on balance our members are still mainly positive about the current business environment. Patently some sectors are suffering, particularly those that rely on the housing and construction industry, many are still doing well”.  Calling for a measured response to the announcement Mr Hutchings said, “It is clear that while the benign influences in the global economy are outside our control we must not make things any worse than they need to be by panicking. Well run businesses in the county will still be able to take advantage of opportunities as they arise”.    For further information contact Tim Hutchings on 01707.398400 or 07956 172208
