Liz Chowne and Lesley Beviss from local accountancy firm, Wilkins Kennedy, have successfully raised £840 for charity after cycling from dusk til dawn in aid of three charities.
Office secretary Lesley, 59, and Audit and Accounts Manager Liz, 47, were in the saddle for a total of six and a half hours, covering a journey through London. They began in Windsor, wheeled through Westminster, biking past Big Ben and Buckingham Palace, clocking up an impressive 104 kilometres.
Lesley is a keen fundraiser and has organised several events previously for the staff and Partners at Wilkins Kennedy Hertford, including a volunteering day at Broxbourne Woods and Nature Reserve, the Starlight Walk and the Warrior Adrenaline Race (W.A.R) and Nuclear Rush Races, which have brought in hundreds of pounds for various charities.
The latest Ride the Night was in aid of three UK cancer charities - Breast Cancer Care, Ovarian Cancer Action & Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust.
Lesley commented: “Having been really nervous beforehand about cycling through the night, it went very smoothly, although can I say 104 km IS a long way. I am really pleased with myself. I did all things right - I rested the day before and kept hydrated and nourished throughout the journey. The secret was undeniably a stash of jelly babies and chocolate, which kept me going through the dawn chorus and the chime of Big Ben at 2am!”
Liz added: “I’d like to say a massive thank you for all the support and sponsorship we have received for the Ride and that we were able to raise a significant amount for three very worthy causes.”
Tim Croft, Partner at Wilkins Kennedy Hertford, said: “My congratulations go out to Lesley and Liz for their achievements and their fundraising success – well done!”
