Today Chamber Chief Executive Tim Hutchings, Area Director Yoland Rugg together with a number of members of our Hertford Business Advisory Group met local MP Mark Prisk MP who is also Shadow Minister for Business & Education. In a wide ranging discussion designed to brief Mark on local business conditions the businesses present expressed the view that they were cautiously optimistic and that we had hit the bottom of the recession and that they expected, albeit slowly, trading conditions to improve.

In other areas of the discussion included concerns over access to finance, complex tax and employment legislation and the difficulties surrounding credit insurance. A lack of skilled and well motivated individuals in the workforce also attracted a great deal of discussion.

Tim Hutchings said, "These local meetings are enormously helpful to us and are extremely important in influencing a wide range of decision makers. I am grateful to Mark for giving up his time this morning and, of course, grateful to the businesses who provided some well thoughtful and well considered views".

The Chamber would like to thank Clydesdale Bank for hosting the meeting.

The Chamber will be meeting with Mark again when he is our keynote speaker at a lunch in Ware on 25th September 2009 ( full details on ).
