Justine Perry, MD of Hertford-based Cariad Marketing, has just won Business Person of the Year at the SME National Business Awards. A total of eleven finalists for the award were chosen from the regional winners which meant she was up against stiff competition.

The judges’ did comment that  what made Justine stand out was about her “drive and determination despite adversity”.

Justine was understandably delighted with her award: “I was honestly not expecting to be judged the best business person in the UK - I was up against 10 amazing regional winners, so was flabbergasted as well as thrilled when I heard my name. Running my own business has been extraordinarily challenging and in the early years I faced more than my fair share of both business and personal hurdles that could easily have derailed me. But I chose to maintain a positive attitude and to keep going regardless, making me realise that I’m capable of almost anything. Having a successful business and a brilliant team have been their own rewards, but winning the SME National Business Award has been the icing on the cake.”

An award-winning year

Cariad has had an incredible year, and the SME National Award is the fifth one the company has won in 2018: at the beginning of the year, the company was crowned Digital Business of the Year, at the FSB East of England Small Business of the Year Awards; it then went on to win Best Marketing Services Provider at the biz4Biz Awards; in the summer Justine won Business Person of the Year, and Rory Welch won Apprentice of the Year at the SME Hertfordshire Business Awards.

Cariad’s 10th anniversary in 2019

Justine said winning the UK SME Business Person of the year was “not only a fantastic end to the year, it’s also a brilliant way to start Cariad’s second decade. We have just begun planning activities for our 10th anniversary in February, so this win will no doubt make the celebrations even more fun!”
