Prizes have been presented to the winners of the Stevenage Fairtrade Fortnight 2008 Challenge Awards.  The Awards aim to encourage individuals and organisations to promote Fairtrade goods.

John Henry Newman School was given the Best Overall Award for the efforts of its staff and pupils. Among their initiatives was a 300 signature petition to all sweet shops in Stevenage asking for more Fairtrade products and using fair-trade as a topic for lessons. Four pupils from the school – Nicola Brady, Kayleigh Thomas, Eleanor Healy Birt and Clare Dove – were each given a Special Merit Award for their outstanding efforts.    Celia Twomey, Stevenage Borough Council Strategic Director, said, “It is very encouraging to see the great efforts which individuals and companies have made to raise awareness of Fairtrade products.”
