Hemel Hempstead is gearing up to host Britain’s top professional bike race at the end of the summer – and the local council is looking for businesses to help Dacorum make the most of this opportunity.
The organisers have just announced that for the first time Hemel Hempstead will be hosting a stage of The Tour of Britain.

And Dacorum Borough Council is working closely with them to welcome the world’s top cyclists as they race into Gadebridge Park on Friday 12 September, live on ITV4.

Councillor Neil Harden, Portfolio Holder for Residents and Regulatory Services at Dacorum Borough Council, said: “We’re so excited Dacorum is hosting The Tour of Britain. It will be great day out for all the family as well as cycling enthusiasts – and a big draw for visitors.

“We want to hear from local businesses who’d like to get involved and make the most of opportunities this major sporting event offers.”
Stage Six, the penultimate stage in the race, crosses the country from the start in Bath, heading through Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire on its way to a challenging final section through the heart of the Chilterns.

“The final third of Stage Six through the Chilterns will be one of the toughest sections of the 2014 route, with a series of short, sharp climbs for riders to tackle,” said Race Director Mick Bennett.

“The countryside and climbs provide ideal racing roads, so I am sure we will see a worthy stage winner crowned in Hemel Hempstead.”

Dacorum Borough Council is working on the finale of Stage Six with Hertfordshire County Council, Buckinghamshire County Council, Oxfordshire County Council, the Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Chilterns Sustainable Gateways Project.

At just over 200 kilometres, the stage will be one of the longest of the 2014 Tour of Britain, with the stage including several testing climbs in and around Chinnor and Princes Risborough. More details of will be confirmed in the summer.

The 2014 Tour of Britain will begin in Liverpool on Sunday 7 September, finishing eight days later in central London with a double-header final day, featuring an individual time trial and circuit race finishing on Whitehall.
