Stevenage Borough Council has welcomed the opening this week of the new Next store in the Town Centre. The new flagship store opens in the Forum this Thursday, close to the new branch of Barclays Bank that opened earlier this month.

Despite the economic downturn, Stevenage Town Centre continues to be vibrant, with new retailers showing an interest in moving in. The Council has also worked with the Town Centre Management Company and Costa Coffee to create an outdoor photo gallery at the vacant site of the former Littlewoods store.

Cllr John Gardner, Deputy Leader of the Council, said, “I am very pleased to see Next moving into this new, larger store. It demonstrates the confidence which we all have in the continuing vibrancy of our town centre.

“The Council is working hard with our partners to enhance the position of Stevenage as a major retail centre. The Council and the Town Centre Management Company both welcome the opening of the larger Next store and with Christmas on the horizon, the timing couldn’t be better!”
