Austins Funeral Directors in Hertfordshire have been supporting families wishing to donate to Macmillan Cancer Support for many years. They have branches in Hertford, Buntingford, Stevenage, Hitchin, Knebworth, Ware, Welwyn, Welwyn Garden City and collectively they have helped to raise £68,157.41 for Macmillan.

This amount of money could fund a Macmillan Nurse for almost 16 months which in turn would help many people affected by cancer and their friends and family receive the support they need at a time when they need it the most. Our expert nurses offer much-needed advice, information and support to people with cancer. They help them make informed decisions about their treatment, and guide them through the maze of different services. They also offer emotional support and help people with cancer deal with their symptoms and pain.

Macmillan nurses support people when they are first diagnosed and throughout their illness. They also offer help and information to families, friends, carers and local communities. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, there are now almost 100 Macmillan Nurses and Macmillan health professionals in Hertfordshire.

Claire Austin from Austins said ‘I was aware that Macmillan Cancer Support is a charity often selected by bereaved families in memories of their loved ones. However, I had no idea that such an amazing sum had been donated through Austin’s. We are delighted that we have been able to assist in raising funds for the provision of the wonderful service and support Macmillan deliver to our local community.’

Every day 15 people in Hertfordshire hear the words ‘you have cancer’ and this number is only increasing. Macmillan are here to help and support those people but we can’t do this with the help and support of our fantastic supporters.

Kerry Cunnane, Macmillan’s Fundraising Manager for Hertfordshire, says: “We understand that when loved ones pass away people like to leave donations in memory of that person. We are so grateful for the money that is donated to Macmillan from these families. It really will make a difference to the lives of people affected by cancer and we just want to say thank you.”
