There’s a chance to join in the celebrations for the start of the Olympics in Rio and watch it all happen at a London 2012 venue. And those who want to mark the next few weeks by taking part in Olympic themed activities, there are special events at both Lee Valley White Water Centre and Lee Valley VeloPark.
Friday Night Live- Olympic Opening –Lee Valley White Water Centre
A special Brazilian themed evening on Friday 5 August at Lee Valley White Water Centre in Waltham Cross, marks the opening ceremony and is open free of charge to everyone. The event will include live music from 19:30 plus Brazilian dance performances, as well as Brazilian themed cocktails. And at midnight, visitors can watch the start of the Games from the comfort of the centre’s sofas on the big screen at The Terrace Bar & Café.

Lee Valley White Water Centre is having a whole weekend of celebrations in honour of the Games on both the Saturday and Sunday, 6 and 7 August. People can relax in its Terrace Bar & Café with an ice cold drink in hand and a selection of delicious freshly cooked food or join in with Olympic themed games and activities which are perfect for all ages.

Cycling to mark the Olympics – Lee Valley VeloPark

Rio Opening Ceremony Celebration: 18:00 – 22:00. Come and cheer on the cyclists as they race at this ‘track league’ event hosted in conjunction with Full Gas Cycling. Watch these exciting track cycling races in the same velodrome that saw Team GB romp to victory at the London 2012 Games, while enjoying a coffee and cake from the 42 Degrees café. FREE for spectators.
10 August– Rio Time Trial challenge
Race against time in this £3 time trial session on the road circuit with bike included. Riders take part in a three lap time trial challenge on the circuit.
The fastest time in different categories wins a prize.
Olympic special tasters £50
Experience the track like a champion in this track taster session with flying lap, where the fastest lap wins a t-shirt, VeloStudio towel and VeloStudio session.
