Fun on the farm, thrills and spills on the water, cycling and taking a historic walk in the country, are just some of the myriad of activities to try in the Lee Valley this summer.
There are also plenty of opportunities to celebrate the Olympics with special events at both Lee Valley White Water Centre in Waltham Cross and Lee Valley Park Farms in Waltham Abbey.
Ready for Rio and holiday fun at Lee Valley White Water Centre
The summer holidays kick off with the Summer Games at Lee Valley White Water Centre on Monday 25 July from 11:00 to 16:00 and continue until Sunday 4 September. During the school holidays there is a bouncy castle and garden games around the pavilion and specially for this year’s Rio Games, a beach and sport activities have been added. Herald in the Games with a free Brazilian themed evening at Lee Valley White Water Centre on Friday 5 Aug marking the Opening Ceremony of the Games with live Brazilian music and dance plus you’ll also be able to watch the Opening Ceremony on the big screen in The Terrace Bar & Café. And on Saturday and Sunday 5 and 6 August, Lee Valley White Water Centre is inviting people to have a go at Olympic themed activities and garden games while catching the sporting action from the Rio Games in The Terrace Bar & Café.
Throughout the summer, visitors can try many of the water sports available at the centre such as Go Sup – stand up paddle boarding for the over eights on the lake and rafting the rapids (age 14 and upwards) down the same 300 metre course where Team GB won gold and silver in the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Alternatively they can sample Hydrospeeding, which is similar to bodyboarding but on fast flowing white water and Hot Dog sessions, two person inflatables providing a heart pumping introduction to kayaking on the rapids.
For the first time, Lee Valley White Water Centre will have a beach this year. Young children can test the new beach area at the centre’s Pavilion in the Park,which is made up of 140 tonnes of light golden sand. The beach will be open all year round for visitors to have free fun. Additionally, little ones will have a special children’s play area.

Animal antics on the farms
Rio will also be a key theme at one of the special themed events down on the farm. Lee Valley Park Farms in Waltham Abbeywill be providing a host of entertainment for those looking for some animal attractions, as well as fun for youngsters in the holidays.
With the farms open every day of the week, the fun never stops, as during the whole summer there are loads of activities and attractions, including taking a thrilling toboggan ride and meeting the 300 animals, including cheeky Meerkats, llamas, guinea pigs, rabbits and exotic species such as Bearded Dragons. There’s a chance to learn fun facts about different groups of animals every two weeks and meet some of them up close. And lamb and pig racing to mark the Olympic Games are just some of the many extra events going on.
