MOVE Week is an annual European-wide initiative designed to promote the benefits of being physically active and participating regularly in sport and physical activity. It aims to get 100m more Europeans more active by 2020.

MOVE Week 2014 is taking place from 29 September to 5 October. With Broxbourne’s high levels of adult and child obesity and low level of adult participation in sport and physical activity, Broxbourne Borough Council has agreed to participate in MOVE Week and is providing funding for local partners to offer Broxbourne residents opportunities to try new sports and physical activities, not just in traditional ‘sport’ settings, but in workplaces, schools, parks, town centres etc. Funding could be provided for taster sessions, open days, workplace group sessions or tournaments, demonstrations, “come and try” events or to fund the start of new initiatives. The Council is particularly keen to encourage participation by residents who are not already physically active.

Applications are now open for local clubs, workplaces and organisations to bid for funding to run activities during MOVE Week 2014.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Wednesday 13 August and should be returned via post or email to Steve Whitlam, Community Development Manager, Broxbourne Borough Council, Bishops College, Churchgate, Cheshunt, EN8 9XF. Email steve.whitlam@broxbourne.gov.uk. Tel 01992 785555 x5909
