February Chamber Lunch

Join us on 28 February 2019 for our monthly networking lunch at Beales Hotel, Hatfield. These events are intended to provide an opportunity for business networking and each month we invite a guest speaker to inspire and motivate you.

We are delighted to announce that this lunch is brought to you in collaboration with the Hertfordshire LEP and our guest speaker will be Sarah Barrett, Business and Community Engagement Manager, HMP The Mount. Sarah will be discussing the topical subject of reducing re-offending and resettlement for prisoners back into the community. This will involve outlining the provisions utilised in custody to challenge prisoner’s attitudes and behaviours to assist in getting them job ready, and then working with the community and employers to secure through the gate services to secure employment and housing to reducing a prisoner’s likelihood of re-offending.

We will also have a short presentation from Gareth Dace, Senior Enterprise Coordinator, Careers and Enterprise Company at the Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership.

In 2016 Sarah Barrett graduated with a First Class BSc Psychology degree with Honours as a mature student and won the British Psychological Society Undergraduate Award for being the highest achiever. Additionally, Sarah was awarded the 2016 Dean's Award from the University's School of Life and Medical Sciences for achieving Undergraduate Research Project of the Year.

Her studies have since led Sarah to become the Business and Community Engagement Manager at the local prison establishment. This role incorporates managing communications and public relations with organisations, charities and employers by liaising and coordinating to create opportunities for prisoners to gain qualifications, education and employability skills to help reduce reoffending once released into the community. She also has experience as a Programmes Facilitator of Interventions at the same establishment, which enhanced communication and motivational skills, plus developed her ability to manage behaviour, problem solve, critically evaluate situations and make effective decisions.

Please note: Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Governor, Kevin Leggett, is unable to speak at this event.

Gareth Dace is Senior Enterprise Coordinator at the Hertfordshire LEP, leading on the Careers and Enterprise Company programme across Hertfordshire. The aim is to match an Enterprise Adviser from the business/public sector with a local secondary school. Enterprise Advisers are typically senior leadership volunteers from the local business community who will engage with schools and colleges. The advisers help prepare young people for future jobs and careers, building up a network of valuable business contacts, and supporting schools to develop a whole school careers strategy.

Bookings are now closed for this event.
