Family Business Seminar: The Personal, Financial and Legal Challenges encountered by Family Businesses

This seminar, brought to you in partnership with Ambition Broxbourne, will explore some of the challenges encountered by family businesses and how to overcome them. Presentations will be illustrated by a number of case studies and the personal experiences of our speakers and subjects covered will include:

Business Ownership: Sibling rivalry, inheritance tax and the critical issue of succession planning to ensure the business passes safely from one generation to another.
Competence of the Board: Corporate Governance, Shareholders’ rights and agreements.
Survival in the market place: Employment issues including employee retention, incentivisation and the importance of good communication channels.

The event will be facilitated by Anita Brightley-Hodges, Founder and Chairman of Family Business Place and speakers at this seminar include:

  • Tom McMullen, Joint Managing Director, McMullen and Sons Ltd.
  • Richard Gvero, Head of Employment, Longmores Solicitors LLP
  • Peter Smits, Managing Director, Ashbourne Insurance
  • Sylvia Vitiello, Partner, Kingston Smith LLP
  • Lynn Whitnall, Chief Executive, Paradise Wildlife Park

Tom McMullen is part of the sixth generation of McMullen's to commit to the business and he passionately believes that professional management, drawn from both family members and independent directors, is required to ensure strong financial performance while remaining one of the last fully independent heritage family brewing companies.

If you are an owner or an employee within a family run business then this seminar should be of interest to you. In addition to the professional advice you will receive there will be opportunities to network with like-minded people and to share information and experiences.

Please note:
The seminar will include lunch and refreshments, followed by an opportunity to take advantage of complimentary entry to the Wildlife Park (with map and show guide), to enjoy over 800 animal friends and a brand new attraction, ‘The World of Dinosaurs’; featuring 30 life-size, animatronic dinosaurs.
