Stevenage has achieved a Gold Award in the small city category of the Anglia in Bloom awards for the second successive year.  The town then went on to beat Bedford, Broxbourne and Norwich to take the title of Best Small City in the Anglia Region.  

The award was presented at a ceremony in Gorleston on Tuesday (9 September).  

In addition three Stevenage projects received a certificate of nomination for special awards -

*The Bedwell Community Centre in the Best Community Project category

*Glaxo Smith Kline in the Best Industrial / Commercial Area category

*Woolenwick Infant and Junior School in the Best Young Persons Project (Under 12 years) category.

In 2008 Stevenage is once again representing the Anglia region in the Britain in Bloom Best Small City category.  The results will be announced in Chester on 24 September. 

Nick Parry, Stevenage Borough Council Strategic Director, said, “To win the Gold Medal two years running is an outstanding achievement which I am sure everyone in the town is proud of.   I would like to congratulate the Stevenage in Bloom team and wish them every success in the national finals later this month.”
