Over 6,000 visitors enjoyed a host of free activities, including an Easter Egg Hunt, free live music and a Bouncy Castle, at Lee Valley White Water Centre over the Easter weekend.

The special fun weekend offered a chance for spectators to see Britain’s best canoeing stars battle it out on the centre’s Olympic course for a place to represent team GB in the canoe slalom European and World championships. At the same time, visitors took part in some of the fun activities on hand, both in and out of the water. They could also have a go at paid for fun on the rapids, such as Hydrospeeding, which is similar to bodyboarding, but on fast flowing white water and Hot Dog sessions in two person inflatables.

“We had 3,500 visitors on the Sunday alone,” said Lee Valley White Water Centre’s General Manager, Paskell Blackwell. “And our Easter Egg Hunt and Trail around The Pavillion in the Park, proved very popular attracting over 500 people. Groups of children followed the trail of white water boats to find our Easter Bunny, who gave out chocolates to every child!

“As well as the Easter events, the team GB Selection was also a great success, as Canoe Slalom athletes competed for their spot on team GB, bringing them one step closer to getting to Tokyo 2020.”

Visitors on the Sunday could also enjoy live music from band Bad Girls Groove in the Terrace Bar & Café, and delicious meals and drinks on hand throughout the three-day event.

The event also saw the launch of Lee Valley Big 50 Giveaway. To celebrate 50 years of Lee Valley Park, 900 prizes are on offer for a range of activities at Lee Valley venues.

The weekend Selection was described by organisers as a tight series once again, with organisers describing it as the ‘most exciting and most competitive selection trials ever concluded at Lee Valley White Water Centre’. British Canoeing’s High Performance Centre is located at the venue and is the base for the British Canoe Slalom squad and all UK Sport funded Podium athletes.  Many of the up and coming canoeists who train at the Lee Valley White Water Centre, took part in the trials and the final results will be announced shortly.
