A Level student Calvin Hibbard has won the top prize in a local legal competition, securing a much sought after work experience placement at award-winning law firm Rayden Solicitors, as well as a £250 Amazon voucher.

The 16 year old fought off stiff competition from school and college students throughout the local area.

Calvin, who is studying Law, History and Government & Politics at Oaklands, said: “I entered the competition because I wanted the chance to do work experience that I would find interesting and that would also be something to put on my CV. My teacher suggested I research England’s divorce laws and when I looked into it, I found that the system in place now is really insufficient for modern times. I will really enjoy my experience with Raydens because I have a genuine interest in law and it is something I can take further in the future.”

Izzy Morgan, St Albans High School for Girls – the youngest applicant – and Olivia Bonfield of Sandringham School were also highly commended.

In celebration of its 10 year anniversary, Rayden Solicitors are offered 10 week-long work experience placements to local students with an interest in law. Applicants were invited to submit 250 words on the laws they would change with the best entry winning a £250 Amazon gift card.

Managing Partner, Nadia Biles Davies said “We were overwhelmed not only with the number of entries, but the remarkably high standard.  Calvin did exceptionally well to win with his thought provoking piece on reform to divorce laws.”

“We are delighted that students have recognised the value that this placement can offer for a future career in law and that they have given us the opportunity to support them in pursuing their legal ambitions.”

“We look forward to welcoming Calvin and the nine other successful candidates to Rayden Solicitors in 2016.”

The work experience placement will include practical careers advice and visits to central London courts and barristers chambers.
