The UK will maintain its opt-out from the European Working Time Directive after a conciliation committee failed to find a compromise. Commenting, Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), David Frost, said:

β€œThe Department for Business has done a good job on behalf of British companies. Maintaining our opt-out sends a strong message to the world that the UK is a good place to do business.

β€œIt is our flexible labour market that has been one of the key strengths of this economy over recent years, and it will be crucial in helping businesses drive the UK out of recession.”
