Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce & Industry today backed new and improved plans for a second runway at Stansted Airport.Plans for the proposed new runway, known as Generation 2, will generate £9 billion for the national economy and help increase the competitiveness and inward investment in the county.

The Generation 2 project is critical in ensuring continued investment and prosperity across the county. Many of the multinational companies located in Hertfordshire are located here due to the effective air transport provided by Stansted.

Stansted’s application, for the first additional runway in the South East in 50 years, will be submitted this summer and the new runway could be open by 2015, subject to planning approval.

Commenting on the plans Tim Hutchings, Chief Executive of Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce & Industry said; “Growth at Stansted is vital if the county and the region are to continue to attract inward investment, promote tourism and ensure the continued prosperity of Hertfordshire.”
