At an award ceremony in the SAS Hotel at Stansted Airport last Friday night (9th May), Janet Mansell a second-year Business Trainee (Commercial Apprentice in the outside world) at Stevenage won the East of England Apprentice Awards Competition. MBDA came joint 2nd for having the best apprentice programme in the East of England. Janet will now go on to the national finals, which will be held in London on 10th July.

On a similar theme, last Wednesday (7th May) an apprentice awareness event was held at the House of Lords in London, hosted by Michael Martin MP, the Speaker of the House of Commons. MBDA was one of 12 companies which was asked to take apprentices. The photo on the right shows MBDA's Janet Mansell, Simon Leon and Andrew Fielding with the Skills Minister, David Lammy MP, who spent twenty minutes speaking with just our apprentices. Prior to that they spent 15 minutes with the Shadow Minister for Skills, John Hays. Our apprentices were the smartest there and were the only ones not to drink!! They were a huge credit to the company and the Learning and Skills Council are in the process of doing some national apprentice material that will be include MBDA.
