Commenting on today's publication of a second round of departmental simplification plans Sally Low, Director of Policy at the British Chambers of Commerce, said:
“Today’s plans show that Government departments are making good progress towards their regulation reduction targets, but this exercise should not just be judged solely on the numbers. There needs to be an assessment made as to whether it helps to create a better business environment.
“There is still some way to go to achieve this. The cost of regulation to business since 1998 is now more than £55 billion, up from £10 billion pounds in 2001. Success needs to be tangible for business and we will be monitoring closely the reaction of our membership over the next 12 months”.
