The 123rd Hertfordshire County Show
The Hertfordshire County Show is the highlight of the County’s outside event calendar, and 2009 will be no exception. Every year the Hertfordshire County Show gets bigger and better, and with the superb balanced combination of traditional displays and demonstrations, combined with some new exciting 2009 additions, it offers a fun-filled day out for all the family.
New additions to this year’s programme include: The Hertfordshire Land Army Girls and Timber Corps tribute display in the Grand Ring on both days. The theme is ‘From our wonderful Land Army Girls to modern Satellite Robots’, and the interactive display will demonstrate the changes in farming techniques and machinery since the 1940’s. Following the tribute display on Saturday, a celebratory afternoon tea for 65 original Hertfordshire Land Army Girls and their guests, hosted by Caroline Tapster, Chief Executive of Hertfordshire County Council and this year’s Show President, will be held in the Members Marquee.
Also new this year is the Hertfordshire County Council information Marquee, BBC TV’s Gus Dermody Sheepdog Display, the Casablanca Steps 1940’s musical quartet, the Hertfordshire Helicopter Air Ambulance will be on view, plus two new covered Picnic Marquees for visitors wishing to bring their own Picnic Lunch. This year’s popular Grand Ring attractions are Europe’s number one stunt and trick riding team the Devil’s Horsemen on Saturday, and the spectacular Bolddog Lings freestyle motorcycle display team on Sunday.
This year’s main Show education event is the Hertfordshire Primary Schools competition to create a ‘green’ farm in a shoebox - using only recycled materials. The innovative competition is open to three categories: Age 3 to 6 years, Age 7 to 9 years, and Age 9 to 11 years. The three winning entries will each receive a £100 cash prize for educational resources, and a school class ticket to Willows Farm Village in London Colney. All the finalists and winning entries will be on display in the Hertfordshire County Council Marquee at the Show.
As always, the Food Hall, Horticultural Marquee, Hertfordshire Food & Farming Marquee, Autorama sites, together with the Shopping and Craft Marquees will offer plenty of opportunities for window shoppers looking for some unusual items, and lots of top quality bargains.
To help combat the on-going gloom and doom surrounding the UK economy, the Show is offering a massive 25% discount for Advance tickets – (no booking fee), and Free Parking. In addition, all Children’s Entertainment is FREE, which includes the All Human Circus, Punch & Judy, Face Painting etc., and the popular Climbing Wall.
Mike Harman, the Show Secretary commented: ‘Although the Hertfordshire County Show is already widely acknowledged as the best Value for Money community event in the County, we are determined to extend our growing reputation in 2009. We strongly believe that the 2009 Family Advance ticket at £25.50, (admitting 2 Adults, and 2 Children), offers exceptional ‘Credit Crunch’ beating value at less than £4 per hour, per family!
We warmly invite both first time visitors, and our regular Show supporters, to join us to enjoy and celebrate the 123rd Hertfordshire County Show on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th May at our Redbourn Showground.’
