Following on from the recent chamber survey on Energy Efficiency the BCC met with HM Treasury's Small Business Energy Efficiency Group to discuss its results and what the Government is doing for small to medium sized businesses.

The BCC is becoming increasingly concerned about the rising costs of environmental resources such as energy, waste, water and fuel. This is combined with increasing environmental regulations designed to help the Government reach its target of reducing carbon emissions by 60%, all of which have the potential to burden disproportionately small to medium sized businesses. As a result of this meeting HM Treasury has asked the BCC to conduct a wider survey to be completed directly by chamber members; the results of which will be used to influence HM Treasury's resource allocations in the upcoming pre-Budget report and next years Comprehensive Spending Review.

From the initial chamber survey I know that many of you have expressed the rising priority of energy efficiency among your members and the discrepancy that exists between assistance large firms and that provided to smaller companies. We would therefore be grateful if as many of you as possible would distribute this to your members. We will also be publishing it in the Chamberonline newsletter later this week as well as the Policy Bulletin.

The survey is available online at http://www.chamberonline.co.uk/YfTaYFZohOhB8A.html  It should take no more than 5 minutes to complete. The closing date for the survey is Friday 22nd September at 5pm. Although we do ask for names and contact details if people wish to remain anonymous we would ask that they complete the question indicating which chamber they are affiliated to so that we can build a regional map; however, the names and addresses of those completing the survey will be entered into a prize draw to win a magnum of champagne!
