Commenting on the labour market figures published today by the ONS, David Kern, Chief Economist at the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), said:  

“Unemployment continues to rise in the face of a worsening recession. We know businesses do not want to lose key staff but they are struggling with cash-flow.

“The Government needs to help address this problem if the rising number of people being made unemployed is to be curbed.               

“Cutting business rates, freezing the national minimum wage and scrapping plans to increase National Insurance will help firms keep hold of employees.”
